Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to buy the fonts?

If you want to support the font author, you can buy the font used in the logo, but all of the fonts used in this project have free versions available. However pay attention to the font licenses, some font authors wish to be credited if you use their font in your logo.

Where to find the fonts used?

When you download and unzip any of these logo files, you will find a “readme.txt” file with links to the fonts used in that specific logo.

Photography logo license

All of these logo templates come with a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. In human language, this means that you can use any of these logos for your personal brand. You can use it on your website, on your images, on print materials, like business cards, stationeries and similar. You cannot sell the logo templates as they are or modified to someone else for profit because that would commercial use. You also are not allowed to redistribute our logo templates without our permission.

What do I need to edit these logo files?

Read our step-by-step tutorial on how to edit and export our logos here. To edit any of these logo templates, you will need Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Elements will not work in this case. If you do not have Adobe Photoshop, go to their website and download a free trial. No need to buy the program if you are not planning to use it in the future.

Crediting logo authors

If you really like our logos and plan to use them, we would appreciate you mentioning us on your website somewhere and linking back to colormelon.com, but only if you feel like it – no pressure!

Crediting font authors

If the font from any logo comes with a license that requests you credit the author you should definitely do so on your website. If you are not sure how to do that, we suggest adding a small “Credits” paragraph on your About page and give a shout out to the authors whose work you used.

    1. Hi, Simon! Thank you, we’re so happy that you like this! And of course we don’t mind you sharing – that’s actually great news! 🙂

      Cheers!

  1. The golden leaf logo is my favorite, but all of them are gorgeous. Thanks a bunch for doing this. 🙂

  2. Just bought your Kameron theme yesterday and am going to re-design my site this weekend and while doing some research I stumbled across your blog. Love that you guys give away free logo designs, but for this particular post logo #5 (Handwritten Logo) is gorgeous but when I open the .psd in PS CC, the fonts are missing and Adobe prompts me to resolve it using typekit, but nothing ever matches up. I’m curious what the font is (and if i need to purchase it) so I can customize the logo.

Thanks for the awesome resources and hopefully I can get the theme installed and customize it without any hiccups.

    1. Hi Rebecca,

So glad you like our work!

Each logo you download from our blog comes in a .zip file. When you unzip it, you get .PSD files and a “readme.txt” document. Open that text document and you will find links to fonts used in that particular logo. All fonts we used are free, so you won’t have to buy anything!

  3. Just found these, trying to find a logo that fits my brand… I really like your golden leaf, thank you for sharing your talent, do you have any other examples and downloads?
    cheers!

  4. The Design Space shared a link to your website. This is a great resource. Thanks to all the creatives that had a part in taking their time to make these and their willingness to share them!

  5. How do I save the file so I can use them? When I open it there are two sides of the same file a left and right. How do I save them so I can use them individually?

    1. Hi Timothy,

When you download any of these logo templates, you get a PSD file with a light and a dark version of the same logo.

From the layers panel, select the logo you would like to save and use (for example, Right Logo > Logo). Right-click on that Logo folder and choose “Duplicate Group”. Then in the Destination area choose “New”.

Now your logo will open up in a new psd document. Go to Image > Trim… and trim all the white space around the logo.

Hope this helped. I will make a video guide about this soon 🙂

  6. hi 🙂 im stuck! i love these!! ive opened in cs6 and duplicated ..got to trim ..and i cant get rid of the black background so the logo is left on the transparent layer? help me please :))

    1. Hi Becci,
Before you trim, turn off the background – in your layers panel, slick on the little eye icon so that the background is disabled and you are left only with the logo. Then go to Image > Trim.. !

  7. I finally found what I was looking for – everything is amazing
Will gladly share this, thank you a million times.

  8. Hey! Thank you so much for the beautiful watermarks. I choose the water color one. I got everything trimmed up and now ready to save it. How do I save it so I can insert it into my pictures? I’m still very new to photoshop, and learning:) I had a previous watermark I made that is in the brush section. Not sure how to save this one into their or how to insert it on to my pictures. Thank you so much again!

    1. Hi Kendra,

So glad you like our logos! There are 2 ways you can use the add your watermark on your images:

      1. Export your watermark as a .png image with a transparent background (File > Export > Export As…). Save it on your computer and when you need to place it on an image, go to File > Place Embedded and select your watermark image. Then resize it as needed.

      2. Open your watermark file in Photoshop. Open your image in Photoshop as well but in a new document. Select your watermark, copy it (Cmd + C / Ctrl + C), go to your image in Photoshop and paste it.

Hope this helped! Which logo did you choose? 🙂

      1. Thank you so much! I choose the watermark with the water color camera! So pretty!

  11. Hey! when I clicked to open the logo it went to photoshop and now I can’t do anything with it because the fonts don’t match and I don’t know how to change it. please help!

    1. When you download the logo file, there’s a “readme.txt” file included and in it you will find links to the free fonts the logo is using. You need to download and install these fonts in order for them to show up 🙂

      1. I love the templates but when I change the info to my info a weird curved white line appears off to the right. How do I get rid of it?

  12. Hello Tanita,

I am using the sunshine Mathew Andersen logo theme, however I need to know how to save the light one and the dark one separately using Adobe Photoshop CC 2018. Can you provide details how to save them separately? Thank you

    1. Hi Shun,

Then do the same for the other color.

  13. Thank you, what an awesome idea. Very creative artwork, and thanks again for sharing. If you don’t mind I will share your site on my website.

    Ciao

  14. Hi, All the logos are great and beautiful and I choose the premium font Sydney Duo, just want to ask before I purchase if the guide/instructions will be included in the file. Thanks.

    1. Hi Dante,
You install Sydney font just like any other regular font but if you need any help with it, feel free to contact the font author and she will help you!

  15. I chose a template I like and was able to create the dark logo just fine by following the instructions you gave, but when I tried to go and do the light one, I kept running into issues. Is the process the same for the light one? Just trying to figure out why I was having problems with the light one when I did the dark one just fine.

    1. Hi Courtney,

All the files are the same so the process shouldn’t be any different. If for some reason the “light logo file” isn’t working, you can try and save your dark logo Photoshop template as a new file (File > Save As..) and the change all the colors to light shades in that document.

  16. Well, am super excited to get all these templates for FREE… Thank you, thank you so much to the whole team, font editors. It will be a great help to the growing photography community members. Gonna share this page with my friends. Am super duper Happy 😀
Would you mind if I share this link in my youtube channel?

    1. Thank you for your kind words! We’d be happy if you shared the link around 🙂

at the minute but I have book-marked it and also
added in your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a lot more, Please
do keep up the great work.

    1. Hi Elena,

Yes, these templates are for Adobe Photoshop. If you don’t have Photoshop but want to use these templates, you can download a free Photoshop trial! And if you don’t have experience in working with Photoshop, I can offer you a customization service for a small fee, if that’s something you’re interested in 🙂

    1. Technically no-one can make you give credit for the logos you download, but since I made all these logos and give them away for free, it would be nice to get some sort of a backlink or credit for the work 🙂
